Cornfest has been celebrated since 1976 when we crowned Twyla Sycks our very first Miss Backus. The day is celebrated starting with a flea market with many local vendors, and a lunch put on by the Cornfest Committee held in the Backus fire hall. Then there is a themed parade with prizes given in a variety of categories, followed by a corn eating contest, games for all ages, a treasure hunt, and food from local vendors. The evening is finished with a raffle drawing, a street dance with a live band and fireworks over the lake.
